The Sun Peaks Housing Authority (SPHA) is a municipally owned, community-driven organization dedicated to developing and managing rental housing for Sun Peaks employees and their families.
Formed in 2018 by the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality (SPMRM), SPHA was created in response to the growing need for affordable, long-term housing in our resort community. As Sun Peaks has continued to grow, the demand for secure, attainable homes for local workers has become essential to maintaining a vibrant, sustainable community and tourism destination.
Our Mission
To provide and manage housing options for all those who seek to live in and be part of the Sun Peaks community.
Our SPHA Strategic Plan 2026-2030 describes our mission and our five focus areas: what we want to achieve and how we're going to do it.
Our Structure
SPHA operates as an independent, municipally owned corporation governed by a volunteer Board of Directors appointed by Council. The Board includes representation from:
- Sun Peaks Resort LLP
- Tourism Sun Peaks
- Local business
- Residential community members
This structure ensures that housing decisions reflect a balance of economic, social, and community interests.
Our Board of Directors
The Sun Peaks Housing Authority is governed by a volunteer Board of seven members, each bringing unique experience and a strong commitment to the Sun Peaks community. Together, they provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to advance SPHA’s mission.
Current Board Members:
- Councillor Len Hrycan – Chair of the Board
- Mayor Rob O’Toole – Vice-Chair of the Board
- Helen Davies – Director
- Desiree Govender – Director
- Bobbe Lyall – Director
- Melissa Vike – Director
Our First Major Project
The BC Builds Sun Peaks Project at 1180 Sun Peaks Road represents a significant milestone — SPHA’s first owned and operated rental housing development.
In partnership with BC Housing (under the BC Builds program) and SPMRM, the project will include a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, offered at both below-market and market rental rates. Construction began in Fall 2025, with occupancy targeted for 2027.
Together with our partners, SPHA is building a future where everyone who contributes to the Sun Peaks community can find a place to call home.
